The trusted voice of Central Texas musicians.
What began as a small group of Austin musicians looking to swap equipment and share performance opportunities has now grown to a 6,000-member network that mobilizes, empowers and advocates for our shared community.
Through the combined efforts and resources of our members, Austin Texas Musicians is committed to elevating industry conditions and empowering professional musicians to lend their voice for change. Austin IS music! Join us to Keep Music Alive.
Show Up. Speak Up. Be Heard.
If we asked you to think of one of your favorite songs or singers right now, you probably can already hear that song in your head. It’s much harder to imagine a world without the music we love. For musicians, it’s more challenging than ever to make a living, and although Austin, Texas has long been referred to as the “Live Music Capital of the World”, the musicians that built this city can’t afford to live and work here any longer. Our voices are powerful, but we’ve been ignored when it comes to issues that affect us.
Austin Texas Musicians IS musicians working for musicians to bring that voice to city, state and federal policy. And we’ve expanded our services during the pandemic to meet the needs of our 6,000 musician members. Together, we’ve made a real impact that has enhanced the lives of musicians everywhere.
Our big vision? We want to improve our quality of life, both here in Central Texas and in other music cities around the country. Our template of community advocacy works anywhere musicians are willing to “Show Up, Speak Up, and Be Heard”.
HAAM provides access to affordable healthcare for greater Austin’s low-income, working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness. Many Austin musicians are self-employed and have no access to health insurance or basic healthcare. They often work multiple jobs and struggle to pay for basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter, with nothing left for healthcare.
That’s where HAAM comes in. By resolving challenges such as long-neglected dental work to hearing loss, heart problems and depression, HAAM and our healthcare partners improve and save musicians’ lives, enhancing Austin’s economy and quality of life. Austin is the "Live Music Capital of the World," and we aim to keep it that way.
HAAM has helped musicians, DJs, and music teachers across Travis and surrounding counties access over $191 million in healthcare services since we began in 2005.
Services include routine dental work, doctor visits and prescriptions, psychiatric counseling sessions, eye exams, out-patient procedures,
specialist referrals, hearing screenings, basic needs assistance, and more.
HOME was formed by a group of concerned women in Austin, Texas, for the purpose of providing financial housing assistance for aging musicians in need. To do so, HOME works to channel the generous donations of those who love Austin music toward easing those challenges.
HOME is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization that strives to create more security for aging musicians of the Austin, Texas, music scene by providing financial grant assistance and other assistance, including referrals to available resources. The performers who put Austin on the musical map have spent most of their careers working without a safety net. As they age, the fall from the tight rope becomes increasingly perilous.
The SIMS Foundation provides mental health and substance use recovery services and supports for musicians, music industry professionals, and their dependent family members. Through education, community partnerships, and accessible managed care, SIMS seeks to destigmatize and reduce mental health and substance use issues, while supporting and enhancing the wellbeing of the music community at large.
Music impacts and inspires nearly everyone, but the people who work in the music industry often face unique and difficult challenges. Musicians and music professionals are at higher risk for mental illness and substance abuse, working under the stress of an unstable income, a skyrocketing cost of living, erratic tour schedules, distance from family and support, and constant proximity to drugs and alcohol.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five Americans experiences a mental health condition each year. That’s why SIMS Foundation ensures that members of our music community have access to a full array of mental health and substance use recovery treatments, delivered with no barriers and at low or no cost.
To succeed in our work, we have built a community of health care providers, volunteers, local business leaders, music industry professionals, and music fans to amplify our efforts. Together, we provide vital services so that our music family can thrive.
